LIVING IN SPACE

This interactive showed images of the sun in various wavelengths of light and allowed for a real-time feed to various NASA sites showing images of the sun.

COLUMBIA MEMORIAL Space Science Learning Center

These interactives were developed as part of a series of permanent media installations for DMNS’ Space Odyssey exhibit.  Consulting with space science academics, NASA, and the DMNS museum team of exhibit & space experts, we were able to produce 10 media pieces for this project.  From video loops of deep space and NASA footage playing throughout on plasma walls, to the immersive space soundtrack, with learning interactives and games dispersed throughout the space.

SEEING THE EARTH FROM SPACE

This interactive showed images of the sun in various wavelengths of light and allowed for a real-time feed to various NASA sites showing images of the sun.

DENVER MUSEUM 0f Nature & Science > Space Odyssey Installation

Space Odyssey is a collection of immersive environments, performance spaces, media displays and interactive exhibits about space science.  The media projects include video loops of deep space, NASA footage playing throughout on plasma walls, an immersive space soundtrack, and learning interactives and games dispersed throughout the space.  All media was developed with the close consultation and collaboration with experts on space science: deep space & Mars academics, NASA, and the DMNS museum team of exhibit developers & space experts.

Space Odyssey received the Association of Science and Technology Centers 2005 Leading Edge Award for Visitor Experience.

RADAR FORECASTING INTERACTIVE

(Weather Prediction Challenge)

Visitors answer questions about the weather based on radar images they interpret, and then watch to see if they are correct.

VIRTUAL WAVE

Visitors generate and compare wave forms from four different disturbances: light wind, strong wind, storm and seismic activity (tsunami).

Their wave forms (3d animations) are then projected on a large wall in front of the touchscreen.

MAPPING PLATE ACTION

A touchsceen interactive, which let visitors explore plate boundaries and the ways they interact.

SEXUAL SELECTION CASE STUDY

This touchscreen interactive uses a combination of narrative text, still and moving imagery to provide an in depth exploration of how sexual selection has lead to special forms for males.

This is one of four different case studies produced.

CELLS COMPARISON INTERACTIVE

With three touchscreen stations, visitors can compare the animal, plant and prokaryotic cells to see which features and organelles they have in common.

ORIGINS OF ORNITHOLOGY, DIGITAL BOOK

This digital book lets visitors "flip" through virtual pages that tell the history of ornithology.  The illustrated pages are excerpts from the Mudge library.

MNS BIRD CLUB

This is a two-part experience. Inside the museum it is a fun, simple touchscreen interactive that lets visitors see where birds have been sighted locally. There is also a list of resources to help them discover bird watching opportunities.

This same experience is also available on the museum’s website.
